For decades, the snowbirds of the New York metropolitan area flocked to Florida for their retirement, while those from parts of the Midwest and Northwest favored Southern California's Palm Desert environs or its LeisureWorlds. But things evolve, including the trend of where people move to retire. The Phoenix area gained more older residents than any other large U.S. city between 2008 and 2010.

But we think the question shouldn't be, "where has everyone else gone?" We'd like to help our readers get out in front of the trend.
