The NIT often plays second fiddle to the NCAA Tournament, but that doesn't mean there won't be any excitement for it.
Mar 13, 2011 - While debate will rage over the March Madness 2011 Bracket for several days, the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) will select 32 teams who missed out on the NCAA Tournament. There are already 14 automatic qualifiers for the tournament and 18 at-large selection in the 74th edition of the postseason tournament.
Automatic Bids: St. Mary's, Missouri State, Long Beach State, Kent State, College of Charleston, Fairfield, Coastal Carolina, Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Murray State, Vermont, McNeese State, Florida Atlantic, Bethune-Cookman, Texas Southern
Time: The selection show starts at 9:00 p.m. Eastern.
TV information: ESPNU will have a 30-minute show to unveil the 2011 NIT Bracket. The ESPN network will have exclusive coverage of the tournament.
Tournament Schedule
March 15-16: First Round
March 18-21: Second Round
March 22-23: Quarterfinals
March 29: Semifinals
March 31: Championship Game
The final two rounds of the tournament will be played in Madison Square Garden. The Dayton Flyers won last year's NIT and will likely be participating in this year's one as well. Is a repeat possible?
