CBS Renews 'The Amazing Race' and 'Undercover Boss'

Great news for fans of reality TV: CBS has announced that it has renewed its Sunday night duo of 'The Amazing Race' and 'Undercover Boss.'

Both shows held their own against NBC's 'Sunday Night Football' during the fall and according to TVGuide.com they will most likely remain where they are in the schedule.

'The Amazing Race' averaged 12 million viewers last fall, and its ratings in the coveted adults aged 18-49 demographic went up by 3 percent despite the competition from football. 'Undercover Boss' has also performed strongly, with an average of 12.3 million viewers and solid ratings.

The renewals mean that 'The Amazing Race,' which launched in 2001 and is executive-produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Bertram van Munster, Jonathan Littman, Elise Doganieri and Mark Vertullo, will return for its 19th season. Fan favorite Phil Keoghan hosts the show, in which teams of two take part in a race around the world in a bid to win the prize of $1 million.

Part travelogue, part endurance test, 'The Amazing Race' has spawned several versions in other countries, though none so far have been as successful as the original. 'TAR' won seven consecutive Emmys for "Outstanding Reality-Competition Program" and seemed unstoppable in the category until this year, when the Emmy went to Bravo's 'Top Chef' instead.

By contrast, relative newbie 'Undercover Boss,' which is executive-produced by Stephen Lambert, Eli Holzman and Chris Carlson, will return for its third season. A spin-off from the U.K. hit show of the same name, it premiered in the U.S. after Super Bowl XLIV in 2010, and the first episode was watched by over 38 million viewers.

The format of 'Undercover Boss' is based on a senior executive working incognito in their own company to investigate how it really works and identify how it can be improved, as well as rewarding the hard-working staff. Companies featured in previous episodes include Subway, Frontier Airlines and Hooters.

'The Amazing Race: Unfinished Business' airs Sundays, 8PM ET on CBS.
'Undercover Boss' airs Sundays, 9PM ET on CBS.
