Reshuffle alert

Monday, May 14, 2012
Westminster is on reshuffle alert this morning, although ears are pointed in the direction of Labour rather than Downing Street.

Shadow Welsh secretary Peter Hain confirmed he was quitting the Labour front bench today, forcing Ed Miliband into a minor reshuffle at the very least.

Tony Blair's former chief spin doctor Alistair Campbell gives evidence to the Leveson Inquiry this afternoon, with much of the questioning likely to focus on New Labour's cosying up to News International.

Prior to Campbell, Lord Justice Leveson will get the rare chance to quiz GOD on what he thinks of the relationship between politicians and the press.

Lord Gus O'Donnell, the former cabinet secretary, was recently highly critical of the way the media treated independent political candidates.

Javed Khan: Rochdale Grooming Case: What About the Victims and Witnesses?
We are very concerned about plans for the new police and crime commissioners to organise and fund virtually all help for victims and witnesses. This would mean patchy local services rather than the current national backbone of support and the potential waste of £21million of tax payers' money on red tape and form filling.
Rupert Myers: Gay Marriage, Laurie Penny, and the State of Comment
Laurie Penny fails to present a nuanced article on why same-sex marriage should be legalised. She derides and underestimates her opponents on an issue with which deserves a mature discussion, wielding the sword of class and culture warfare.
