Murdoch hits back at MPs

Wednesday, May 2, 2012
Rupert Murdoch has hit back after MPs branded him unfit to be in charge of a major media firm, teling News International staff the company have been "working hard to put things right."

Responding to the findings, News Corp admitted that the committee had highlighted "hard truths" but condemned the report by the Commons Culture Committee as "unjustified and highly partisan".

The fallout from yesterday's party-political slanging match continued this morning after Labour committee member Paul Farrelly disputed Tory Louise Mensch's claim that the committee had never even discussed whether Murdoch was "fit" to run a company.

In an attempt to stop the arguments descending into a bar brawl the Commons authorities have decided that MPs are going to have their glasses of wine topped up less frequently - however they are to be given iPads.

Tom Edwards: Is It Time for an End to Party Politics at City Hall?
As I leave her grandiose adopted office on the Southbank, I can't help but think that if such an outsider as Siobhan Benita were to make it into City Hall at the expense of the megabucks political play-makers, then it must surely be a victory not just for her, but for democracy too.
