'I wish Dorries would shut the f*** up'

Thursday, May 10, 2012
Tory MP Nadine Dorries was roundly criticised by her fellow backbench Tory MPs on Wednesday night for her outspoken criticism of David Cameron and George Osborne as "arrogant posh boys".

Her recent comments were flayed by several of her fellow backbenchers during a private meeting of the 1922 Committee of Tory MPs.

"I wish she would just shut the f**k up," is how one backbench Tory MP put it to HuffPost after the meeting, where several Tory MPs made no secret of their annoyance with her recent interviews.

It's a tense day for Downing Street as Andy Coulson is due to be quizzed at the Leveson inquiry. Cameron's former communications chief's appearance comes ahead of Rebekah Brooks' grilling on Friday. Will it be the revenge of the red top? Or will the two former News of the World editors spare the prime minister's blushes.

Also today American's will be waking up to news that President Obama has come out in favour of gay marriage. While his support has little immediate practical impact, it does represent a huge victory for gay rights campaigners and will of course become an election issue.

Water 21: Floody Mess - Our Drought of Comprehension
It turns out the Water Industry isn't really regulated in the public interest at all; but rather, for protecting a range of commercial vested interests. The concept of holistic catchment management, where capturing rainwater against dry spells should be common sense, is still not remotely the norm.

You would be startled if a supermarket tried to charge more than the sticker price at the till and shocked if they took extra money from your credit card several days after you went shopping. Supermarket suppliers, on the other hand, face these practices every day.
William Hanson: The Dummies' Guide to the State Opening of Parliament
Her Majesty is not known to like public speaking, but sees it as a duty that she must perform. The government of the day writes the words of Her Majesty's speech, and as 'head' of the government she simply reads them - regardless of whether she agrees with the finer details.
